Narayangaon is about 80 kms away from Pune towards north on the Pune–Nashik Highway. It is one of the important towns in Junnar Taluka of the Pune District. It is popular for its natural beauty. Water is abundant because of its proximity to major dams, the Western Ghats, and the Sahyadri mountain range. The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) site is located 7-8 kilometres to the west. VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) is located in Arvi, 5 kilometers away. Narayangaon is also famous for its splendid natural beauty, as it is surrounded by dams and the Western Ghats, Sahyadri mountain range is in its proximity, water is not a problem. Malshej Ghat a famous tourist destination in the Western Ghats is at a 45 mins drive away.
Farming includes mainly grapes, vegetables and sugar cane. Since last few years, farmers here are also trying other sources of income. Narayangaon has emerged as a major exporter of table grapes. Grapes from here are exported to mainly Middle-East and Europe. The Grape-Wine of the Château Indage Champagne Factory is said to be Asia's largest grape-wine. The factory had also signed an MoU with an Australian University for a course in wine-making. However the factory could not survive market forces and is now shut down.
The famous Maratha King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born at the Shivneri Fort, 16 km away from Narayangoan. Shivneri fort is one of the famous places in Maharashtra (India). The Narayangad fort is about 10 kilometers away from Narayangaon. There is also one hill named Ganpir Dongar. It is 3 km away from Narayangaon. Two of the Ashtavinayak Ganapatis are located nearby: Shri Girijatmak of Lenyadri, situated nearly 17 kilometers North-West, Shri Vighnahar of Ozar situated nearly 10 kilometers to the North. Muktabai is the Gram-Daivat of Narayangaon. There is a Muktabai Temple near the Mina river. It has recently undergone renovation. The Yatra of Muktai Utsav starts after the next day of Varuthini Ekadashi. This is one of the biggest "Yatra" in Maharastra state. People come from different parts of Maharashtra to enjoy this Festival. Ram Mandir, was established during the time of Peshwas. Under the leadership of Dr. Madhukar Dange, a well known physician, the temple was gifted to the Brahman Sangh in 1990's. It was later renovated, and became the pride of Narayangaon. The festival of Ramnavmi is celebrated there every year.
